In simple terms, boilers are sealed vessels where water is converted into steam through fuel firing for industrial heating and humidification purposes. Most commonly used fuels are oil, gas, coal, coke, or biomass.
For power generation, boilers are used to drive a steam turbine connected to an electrical generator. Industrial boilers are used for different purposes in different industries. Application of steam from an industrial boiler can vary largely depending upon the industrial activities and processes in a given point of time. Hence, in most cases, industrial boilers do not operate at maximum capacity because of the fluctuating demand for steam.
